Alpine county Local Transportation Commission
Regional Transportation Planning Agencies play a critical role in shaping our communities. They guide our transportation investments for many modes of travel, including public transit, automobiles, trucks, trains, bicycles, pedestrians and to some extent airplanes. The Alpine County Local Transportation Commission (LTC) is the Regional Transportation Planning Agency (RTPA) for Alpine County. The Commission is comprised of an executive secretary and a five-member board of supervisors representing the various districts in the County. The LTC is responsible for planning the needs of the transportation system in the County, including roadways, transit, rail, aviation, and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
The Alpine County LTC is responsible for maintaining and updating the Regional Transportation Plan every 5 years in accordance with State guidelines and to provide consistency with the Region’s General Plan Housing Element. The Regional Transportation Plan provides the framework for prioritizing projects and developing a planning level schedule for implementation. This document has become increasingly important as funding resources constrict, planning efforts coordinate, and new programs expand.
DEVELOPING A REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN
The purpose of the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) is to provide the vision for the region, supported by transportation goals, for ten year (2025-2035) and twenty year (2035-2045) planning horizons. The RTP will assess the current modes of transportation in Alpine County and the potential of new travel options within the region; identify projected growth corridors and predict the future improvements and needs for travel and goods movement; identify and document specific actions necessary to address the region’s mobility and accessibility needs; and determine prioritized regional transportation projects and funding strategies for Alpine County over the next twenty years.
The RTP will cover all transportation modes including local roadway improvements and maintenance, State highways, bridges, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, rail, and aviation. The RTP development process will be a collaborative effort between Alpine County, Caltrans, Hung a Lel Ti, environmental and resource management agencies, and the community.
The last RTP for the region was developed in 2020.
The Alpine County Local Transportation Commission and regional partners will be developing the 2025 Alpine County Regional Transportation Plan update through fall and winter of 2024 and spring of 2025 with an eventual adoption target date of June 2025. Any outreach materials for the update including notices, meetings, minutes, and agendas will be posted on this website.
